Pizza Party!

Yesterday, I attended my first Pizza Party at Grandmother's church office! Of course, everyone had pepperoni or cheese pizza except me and I had a bottle of formula (yippee!). I can't wait until I can get my hands around a liter of Dr. Pepper! (see photos below)

Aunt Christy came to town with her friend Miss Becky. Both of my great-grandmas were there, along with my great aunt Karen and cousin Gracie. Of course, mommy, grandmother and grandaddy (pronounced "Gran-Diddy") were there, too! He's still working on nicknames for me. He no longer calls me "Skeeter" or "Tater." For some reason, he's started calling me "Putt-Putt." I don't know what that means, but grandmother says it's "due to the formula."

Dad had to work, unfortunately. (but I'm glad he has a job!)

I slept most of the time, but did wake up to see Gracie impersonate a woman in labor (don't ask!) She learned that from her big sisters.

Last night, mom, dad, grandmother and grandaddy took me to an auction for mom's school. You wouldn't believe the number of people who wanted to bid on me! (mom says I'm not for sale)

Well, I'm over three weeks old now, so I'll sign off. Leave me a comment and let me know what's new in your life!

To Grandmother's House I Go!

Tonight was my first trip to my grandparents' house (it really was "over the river and through the woods"!-- see photos below)

I watched everybody eat dinner before it was my turn. Then, we watched America's Funniest Home Videos on the picture box. Some of those babies were hilarious!

After that, I made quite a production in my Pampers and the folks put clothespins on their noses! Then, I got to try out another bed, one they call a "Moses Bed." They all seem the same to me, but I'm always ready for a catnap.

We're going North tomorrow to see my other grandma. I'm becoming a real travelin' girl!

Happy Birthday To Me!

In case you missed the big celebration, I turned ONE WEEK OLD last night! I feel so OLD!

Mom and I took a "road trip" this morning to her office. Grandmother D held me and fed me while we were there. She told me I am beautiful (she's not biased, is she?) She also said my mom looks good (I agree). One of mom's childhood friends is here helping out, but I don't know why. I'm just a little bundle of joy and never cause any trouble!

Mom says after my 6-week check-up she's going to see a doctor about having gall bladder surgery. I think she should have it before we go to the beach next month with the grandparents and my aunt and uncle.

We're going to JC Penney's this afternoon for my first official portrait! (They were supposed to take one at the hospital, but we were in a rush to get out when they finally released us!)

Thanks for visiting my blog and have a terrific weekend!

What's In A Name?

Thankfully, my Billy Rubin level is falling again and I'm only waking the folks once a night, so things are going well on the homefront!

I've been doing a lot of thinking lately (my calendar is pretty free these days) about what I'm going to call my grandparents. (They think it's up to them, but I'll be the judge of that!) My dad called his grandfather "Pappy" because Popeye was his favorite movie. He called his mother's mom "Ma" because that was easier to say than "Grandma." You wouldn't believe the choices that are out there. Check out the weird names for grandparents I found on the web:

Gigi, Boompa, Nappy, PamPaw, WaWa, Poppy, MopMop, Nini, Papaw, Memaw, Poppa, Nonno, Granpee, Grumppa, Oma, Opa, Moo, Crappa, Nonny, Papps, and my favorite: Granny Fanny!

What did you call your grandparents? Click on the "comments" link below and leave me some suggestions. I need some help!

Am I Blue?

I'm not blue, it's just this Billy Blanket that makes me look blue!

When mom and I went to the Doc yesterday, he said my Billy Rubin levels were up again and sent me home with the blanket to help fix things.

On top of that, I'm back on the bottle! Doc wants me to drink this formula stuff for a while. That's okay because mom hasn't begun making the good stuff yet, anyway. (Probably because I made my entrance a couple of weeks early).

Other than that, I'm having a great time hanging around the house, eating, sleeping and swinging. What a life!

Free At Last! Free At Last!

The hospital released us at 5:00 this afternoon and we were home by 6:00! Praise the Lord!

My skin turned pink again and I don't have to use Billy's Blanket anymore!

There was a stork on the front lawn to greet us (see photos below). I got to try out my new swing and my first visitors were Grandpa and Grandmother (today's her birthday!). Dad let them hold me for a little while. Mom was plumb wore out and fell asleep in the recliner (she's had quite a week!)

I think I'm going to like my new home. You should see all the baby stuff they had waiting for me!

I got to meet my big sister tonight. She seems nice but she won't stop sniffing me and she has this long tail that keeps wagging back and forth. She seemed more excited than I was!

Mom and I have a doctor's appointment in the morning, so we both have to get some sleep. Dad has the week off, so he's going to drive us.

Thanks for all of your prayers! God is So Good!

Billy Rubin

Well, I'm still here in the hospital. Some guy named Billy Rubin came by today and now I have to wear his blanket until I can go home! (see photo below)

Dad says it has something to do with yellow skin and the blanket will help. All I know is that I'm ready to go home!

Somebody else needs our room, so I'm going back to the nursery in the morning and my parents will have to go home or crash in the waiting room. Mom says she's not leaving without me, so tomorrow should be an interesting day!

Saturday Night's Alright With Me!

Today was my last day in NICU. My great uncle and aunt brought my three 1st cousins to see me, but it was not to be. They were still restricting my visitors until I learned not to lose my lunch.

Later this afternoon, they finally sprung me, just in time to see my Great Grandmother D and Grandma M! They even got to hold me and feed me! I think I'm going to like them! After they left, Grandpa and Grandmother D stopped by and they got to hold me, too! I feel like a little football being passed back and forth!

Mostly, I sleep, eat and, well, you know. I can easily settle down into a comfortable position and I don't like it when somebody disturbs my beauty sleep (as if I needed it!)

The hospital discharged mom today and said she could go home and come pick me up tomorrow. She said, "No way, Jose" and she paid for another night. Who is Jose? Anyway, we should be going home tomorrow afternoon. I can't wait to see the room mom and dad have fixed up for me! I'll let you know how it goes. For now, check out the photos we took today below. Thanks for stopping by!

My First Full Day

Quite a lot has happened since I last blogged (is that a bodily function?)

They've taken most of the tubes out of me and I'm exercising my lungs more and more (I bet they can hear me on the next floor!)

Dad stopped by this evening and held me for about an hour. He talked to me a lot and told me lots of neat stuff. What I want to know is: what's a Boston Red Sock?

Then, it was mom's turn and she fed me something out of a bottle. It was okay, but they tell me I'll be able to drink directly from the spigot pretty soon (whatever that means!)

What do you think of the pictures I posted below? The one of me is not too flattering. I look much better in person.

One of my great-grandmas came to see me and planted a kiss on my head with her finger. I can't wait to slobber on her shoulder!

Grandma took a shot of Grandpa catnapping while they waited for my arrival. She says he can sleep anywhere!

My great aunt and second cousin came to the hospital today, but they couldn't come back to see me. I'm only allowed four visitors a day for the time being.

Mom and dad say I'll be able to spend lots more time with them tomorrow. It'll be my first weekend "on the outside!" I'll get somebody to take some more pictures and post them for you to see.

Thanks for visiting my blog and don't forget to check back often!

Hallelujah!

Hello, world!

I arrived at 7:06 p.m. tonight, on the 7th of April in L&D Room 7! As you may know, seven is the "perfect number," according to the Bible, so I feel very blessed indeed!

Dad, mom and I are doing just fine, thank you! Grandpa, my two grandmas and my aunt were in the waiting room when I arrived and they're proud as punch! (My uncle had to work, so he couldn't make it.)

Tale of the Tape: 6 lbs. 12 oz - brown hair - brown eyes - 22 INCHES LONG! (they're already calling me a future Katie Feenstra!)

Dad took some pictures of me and I would post them for you to see, but I'm stark NEKKID in them, so I'll wait until I can get some clothes on! Grandpa did get a shot of dad filling out my baby book in the waiting room shortly after I was born and I'll try to post that one.

For those of you wondering where I got my name, "Jayme" is a feminine derivative (I know, that's a big word for a newborn!) of the name, "James," which was my dad's middle name, and my grandpa's, great-grandpa's and great-great-grandpa's first name. "Lynn" is my mom's middle name.

Since I arrived a few weeks ahead of schedule, Mom and I are going to hang out here at the hospital for a few days, so I'll be updating my blog from the nursery (I wish some of these other kids would quiet down so I can get some shut-eye!)

Well, I've had quite a trip, so I'll close now. Be sure to check back later for more news and photos!

I see trees of green, red roses, too. I see them bloom for me and you. And I think to myself, "What a Wonderful World!"

Thank you, Lord, for watching over me from the very beginning! (Psalm 139:13)

Delayed Arrival!

I feel like I'm at an airport! My arrival has been delayed again!

Now, they say I won't be out of here until sometime this evening. It sounds like Mom has committed a crime, since the docs say she'll have to do some "hard labor" at around 8:00 tonight. The good news is that she has been given something called an "eppy-dooral" and tells me she's feeling fine!

Both grandmas-to-be spent last night in the waiting room and are trying to catch up on the sleep they missed this morning. I'll have to give them both a hug when I get the chance.

Oh, well. I still believe the Lord knows the best time for me to be born! (Ecclesiastes 3:2)

ETA 8:00 a.m.!

Pressing my ear to the wall, I just overheard the docs say I should be outta here by 8:00 a.m. tomorrow morning! April 7 will live in infamy (or is that infantmy?)!

Of course, I won't be alone in having a 4/7 party every year. Among those who share my impending birthday: Sitar player Ravi Shankar, Actor James Garner, Actor Wayne Rogers ("M.A.S.H."), Singer Charlie Thomas of The Drifters (my grandma's favorite group!), Movie director Francis Ford Coppola, TV personality David Frost, Singer Patricia Bennett of The Chiffons (another of my grandma's faves), Singer John Oates of Hall and Oates, Singer Janis Ian, Drummer Bruce Gary (The Knack), Actor Jackie Chan, Actor Russell Crowe, Singer Mark Kibble of Take 6, Actor Bill Bellamy ("Fastlane"), and Actress Heather Burns.

Ouch! I just stepped on another gallstone. These things are annoying!

Look out, world! Here I come!

Welcome!

To my Brand New Blog!

Actually, I haven't been born yet (although my debut is due at any moment)! I'm dictating this through a stethoscope. I'll take over as soon as I get my hands on a keyboard. Unfortunately, I don't have in-utero web access.

Mom, Dad, and I are here at the hospital, anxiously awaiting my arrival. Although I was scheduled to spend another 1 to 3 weeks "on the inside," mom's being stoned by her gall bladder and the docs plan to send me an eviction notice sometime later today!

I've had a blast in here, although I must admit the last few months have been a bit on the boring side. You know, writing my name on the walls and doing somersaults, etc. Dad tried to get mom to swallow a rubber ball so I'd have something to play with, but she declined.

They tell me folks have been more than generous at several baby showers and I'm looking forward to playing with my new toys and wearing my new and "gently used" clothing!

Well, they've apparently put another dose of pain medication in mom's IV because I'm getting drowsy again, so I'll sign off now. I'll need some shut-eye anyway, in preparation for my journey to the outside. Leave me a note if you'd like to and I'll read it when I wake up.

See you soon!
